We are going to have a child……ren’s section…..

Haha!  That’s right.  We soon will have a section online and in store for the kiddos in your life.

Advice that many people have given me is, “carry more things for children”.  It was more difficult to do that than I thought it would be, because I don’t have any yet.  So I’m just starting with, ”If I had a child, how would I dress them and what would I want them to play with…”  One of my biggest fears about having children is having a house full of plastics toys that get played with once.  I know that we will probably end up with a few, but my goal is to not let it get out of hand.

Wonderful knit toys, including ice cream cone rattles, veggie rattles, and knit tools.

Anyway!  That is just one of my fears.  Another is what they are wearing.  Not just because of what they will look like, but also what kinds of toxins are going to be on their little bodies.  I’m on a search for 100% Organic apparel.  I’ll let you know what we go with, a few are on the radar!

Thanks for your support!

Great Finds

I am always thrilled to find Fair Trade companies that carry products with great designs, patterns and price.  I just place an order for some fun new home decor items.  Thought I would share a sample with you…

Zen Zen from Bali.

Keep your eyes peeled for them in store and online!

Donations

A big part of Dignity Regained’s purpose is to raise money for projects that are fighting trafficking.  We have been able to give a little so far, but our hope is to grow and to be able to take on projects that we can give consistenly to.  Until then, we’ll give what we can to those that God puts on the heart, and who ask.

Even though our main purpose is to fight trafficking, I simply couldn’t look the other way or stop thinking about the food crisis after seeing Marcie’s blog with these pictures of a grocery store in Zimbabwe that a friend sent her.

So when I got an email from Oxfam asking to give so they can help with the food crisis, that’s where this month’s donation went.  So if you have shopped recently at Dignity Regained, thanks for helping with the food crisis!  We were only able to send it because you shopped.  A smaller donation was sent to Invisible Children in the beginning of the month as well.  Invisible Children is making a difference in Uganda.  “Invisible Children improves the quality of life for war-affected children by providing access to quality education, enhanced learning environments, and innovative econmic opportunities for the community.”  To read more about the trafficking of child soldiers you can visit their website.

If jewelry and clothes could get married…

If jewelry and clothes could get married, I would have an arranged marriage between the clothes in our store and 2ReVert’s jewelry.  It’s jewelry made from recycled skateboard decks, complete with nicks and scratches.  I got some in the mail today, and couldn’t wait to post it.

A couple of necklaces…

and couple of belt buckles… love the blue and red one!

India On My Heart

So the wonderful Mika surprised me again by just showing up at the store and relieving me of watching it for the last few hours of my day!  I was able to go home and start a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.  I think about India a lot about the people group called The Untouchables, the women trapped in brothels, the people in poverty with little to no options, and more recently about the widows young and old and the few choices that they have.  (After Mika let me borrow the movie Water, I recommend it!)  I made a few shirts that I hope are the first of many that we can sell and then donate proceeds to groups doing important work in India.  Here is me this morning in one of them.   It’s a silhouette of India with the words “India on my heart” in the middle.  Watch for updates about more of these!

**Update**There are now two shirts on our Etsy page.

It’s never too early for a great scarf!

Our scarves are now available online.  I hope you love them as much as I do.  They are all light enough for a cooler summer night.  It’s never to early to shop for fall, it will be here before we know it.  Or you can get an early start on that Christmas list, an easy one for the woman who is difficult to shop for.
